Maker Studios to Debut Bart Baker-Hosted Clips Show Across Screens
Maker Studios is launching a new series called “CrashPad,” a digital “Tosh.0” starring YouTube comedian Bart Baker.
Premiering Friday, December 5, the series is part clip show, part talk show, and part game show, according to the MCN. It will feature commentary around the most popular clips on the web, and feature appearances from a wide range of online talent including Amy Pham, Iman “AlphaCat” Crosson, Ed Bassmaster, Sam Macaroni, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Shane Dawson, DeStorm, King Bach, and Jesse Wellens of Prank vs. Prank.
Clips featured on the show will be provided by Jukin Media, which Maker Studios is an investor in. The two companies also have a deal in place to develop new show formats based on Jukin’s library of viral web clips.
Co-produced by Maker Studios and Drama 3/4, “CrashPad” will be available across multiple screens. The show will air weekly on Music Choice, a US-based VOD provider that reaches 57 million homes. It will also be available on Music Choice’s digital service Music Choice Play, as well as Maker’s own Maker.tv.
But that’s just one version of “CrashPad.” A shorter version, running for 4 minutes instead of 11, will air on Baker’s YouTube channel, which has more than 4.5 million subscribers.
Music Choice only has US rights to the show, so it’s possible that Maker shops the show to distributors internationally, though the company makes no indication of that in the announcement.
Earlier this year, Maker cut a deal with Music Choice to bring more than 500 hours of content to the VOD service. This included a month-long “music takeover” of Bart Baker, whose parody music videos aired on Music Choice as part of a “Bart Baker’s Funniest Videos” special.
Music Choice is a joint venture between Comcast, Fox, Time Warner Cable, Microsoft, Motorola, Sony, and EMI Music. The earlier deal with Maker was its first with a digital content provider.Tags: Bart Baker, comedy, Drama 3/4, Jukin Media, maker studios, MCN, music, music choice, YouTube Creators
