Maker Studios Celebrates 25th Anniversary of ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’
In a way, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” served as the pre-YouTube YouTube, in which anyone could send in clips of their pets, babies, or sisters behaving hilariously for mass audiences to witness. Now, 25 years since the show’s television debut, “AFV” is going digital for a yearlong celebration of its quarter century anniversary with Maker Studios and YouTube talent like Shay Carl.
As per the deal, Maker will manage all “AFV” YouTube channels and produce new content revolving around the longstanding TV show. That’s where Shay Carl and fellow YouTubers come in.
Ready to premiere on Sunday, October 19, “ShayFV,” a show in which the famed YouTuber will challenge audience members to different video feats that he’ll feature in weekly episodes, will reside on Maker.tv, the Shaytards YouTube channel, and the official channel of “AFV.” Each of the 17 total episodes will run between three and five minutes.
The partnership will bring other digital talent into the world of “AFV.” Jason Horton, Ceciley Jenkins, and Ed Bassmaster will star in the show “AFV Do Overs,” in which they reenact some of the show’s most popular home video selections. “AFV Do Overs” will show up on the “AFV” YouTube channel a week before each broadcast TV episode of the family video series.
Additional online footage will include commentary from after each week’s “AFV” TV episode and a new show from YouTube’s Jason Horton, called “America’s Funniest Line.” The improv show, played out before the “AFV” studio audience, will debut Sunday, October 5 on “AFV”’s YouTube home.
Vin Di Bona created “AFV” beginning with 1989 pitch, and Vin Di Bona Productions’ partnership with Maker goes back before this anniversary-related initiative to earlier this year. “AFV”’s channels have accumulated significantly more views since its partnership with Maker, with the main channel now at over 50 million.Tags: AFV, afv do overs, America's Funniest Home Videos, ceciley jenkins, ed bassmaster, jason horton, maker studios, Maker.TV, Shay Carl, shayfv, Shaytards, vin di bona, vin di bona productions, youtube, YouTube Creators
