Maker Studios Inks Digital Distribution Deal with Sweden’s MTG
European broadcasting giant Modern Times Group has cut a digital distribution deal with Maker Studios.
Per the agreement, MTG will now deliver Maker Studios content via its ad-supported online video services in Scandinavia, the Baltic States, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
With 70% of Maker’s viewership happening outside of the US, the company is focused on building its international distribution network in “organic” ways, said Sam Wick, Maker’s EVP of business development and operations, in a statement.
“Our commitment to expanding our digital footprint and offering is clear and securing great content through long-term partnerships is key to this,” added Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, MTG’s president and CEO.
Maker’s network currently stands at more than 55,000 creators, combining to reach more than 550 million subscribers across the globe. Its top talent, the gamer who goes by the name of PewDiePie, recently topped 30 million subscribers — the first creator to do so in YouTube history — and originates from MTG’s home base of Sweden.
This deal follows MTG’s acquisitions of Splay, a multi-channel network based in the Nordic region, and NetInfo, which operates a video-sharing service in Bulgaria.Tags: digital distribution, maker studios, MCN, Modern Times Group, PewDiePie, YouTube Creators
