Maker Studios Resurrects The Station as Comedy Channel Nacho Punch
In its earliest iteration, Maker Studios was once known as The Station — a comedy channel comprised of future Maker execs and YouTube comedians, including Shane Dawson, Shay Butler (Shaycarl), and Philip DeFranco. After Maker was officially formed (minus a few The Station members), the comedy channel all but ceased operations, until now.
Joining the recently rebranded Polaris, which was once The Game Station, The Station has been relaunched under the channel name Nacho Punch. The channel will focus on showcasing Maker’s comedic talent in the same way that Polaris brings together the network’s biggest gamers under one roof. According to the Nacho Punch welcome trailer, the channel will feature several of Maker’s top comedians, including KassemG, Steve Kardynal, and Nathan Barnatt.
Back in October, Maker head Ynon Kreiz explained that the network would roll out 20 total vertical channels similar to Polaris, Maker Music, and the newly minted Nacho Punch. Kreiz detailed the company’s plan to copy strategies from similar multi-channel content providers like MTV. “Those who have figured out how to program to niches organize themselves in a way that aggregates audience around key demographics and interest groups,” he said at this year’s Variety Entertainment & Tech Summit.Tags: kassemg, maker studios, Nacho Punch, Nathan Barnatt, Polaris, Steve Kardynal, The Station, Ynon Kreiz, youtube
