Maker Studios and Wikia to Recreate the Biggest Fan Moments of 2014
Maker Studios has teamed up with Wikia, the online community of pop-culture encyclopedias, to celebrate the biggest “fan moments” of 2014.
Called “The 2014 Year in Fandom,” an upcoming video series from the two companies will recreate the biggest moments in entertainment and pop culture — across TV, movies, games, music, and comics. Moments to be featured in the series include “The Walking Dead” season premiere, New York Comic-Con, “The Fault in Our Stars” premiere, Disney’s “Frozen” DVD release, and the video game “Alien: Isolation.”
Exactly how these moments will be recreated is still pretty vague. Also vague and seemingly complicated: how the moments were selected, which Wikia and Maker say were first picked by Wikia’s fan programming and community team, and then further validated through a proprietary metric called “Wikia Activity Metric,” which measures total audience, size/complexion of the body of content, and “usage moment.” The moments selected featured a huge spike in WAM when that moment occurred.
In any case, “The 2014 Year in Fandom” will see some of the top Wikia collaborators partnering with select talent across Maker Gen to create these videos. If you recall, Maker Gen was the name given to the network of 50,000+ creators affiliated with Maker Studios who aren’t big enough to get access to some of the company’s premier services.
Videos will start rolling out on December 1, across a custom page for the series on Wikia.com, Maker’s own online video platform, and both the participating Maker Gen creator’s YouTube channel as well as Wikia’s channel.
This series is also just the beginning; Maker and Wikia have also agreed to collaborate on a new video training program. Maker Gen will provide tutorial videos as an invitation-only feature within Wikia’s Fan Studio. Those who “graduate” the program will be automatically invited to Maker Gen.Tags: JakeMcCoyNetwork, maker gen, maker studios, MCN, Noodlerella, ThatWasHistory, Wikia, YouTube Creators
