Mashable Launches New Daily Series Hosted by Elliott Morgan

Social news site Mashable has launched a new daily series called “The Mashable Minute,” which will provide a quick take on some of Mashable’s top stories.

The series is hosted by Elliott Morgan, who you might be familiar with as one of the first hosts of “SourceFed,” the multi-daily news-and-commentary program launched by Philip DeFranco in 2011. Morgan left SourceFed last month to pursue other opportunities in the online video space, stating at the time that he needed to “take risks and move on.”

That has taken him to Mashable, which reaches more than 100,000 subscribers on YouTube.

The format of the show is a slight tweak on the current practice of digital publishers adding companion videos to their articles. In many cases, these videos are simply rehashed versions of the article. “The Mashable Minute,” it appears, will look to extend the conversation surrounding the topic of interesting articles on the site, and in some cases, drive more readers to that piece as well.

“The Mashable Minute” is produced by Collective Digital Studio, which inked a deal with the social news site last fall to produce original programming that would live under the Mashable brand.

“I think you’ll see content that’s representative of Mashable in its topicality and tone, but done in a variety of formats that are tailor-made for YouTube,” Adam Ostrow, chief strategy officer at Mashable, told VideoInk at the time. “So you’ll see stuff about web culture, tech, and entertainment, but done by personalities that already have a big presence on YouTube and know how to connect with that audience.”

“The Mashable Minute” with Elliott Morgan certainly fits that bill.
