Microsoft’s Phil Spencer Is Now the Boss of Xbox
Microsoft is grouping its Microsoft Studios team together with its Xbox and Xbox Live development teams, forming a larger unit that will be headed by Phil Spencer, the current chief of Microsoft Game Studios.
In Spencer’s expanded role, he will oversee the various Xbox, Xbox Live, Xbox Music, and Xbox Video teams. This includes Xbox Entertainment Studios, the team headed by former CBS boss Nancy Tellem that’s developing original TV shows for the “home entertainment” console.
The news was announced by new Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a blog post, in which he said: “Combining all of our software, gaming, and content assets across the Xbox team under a single leader and aligning with the OSG team will help ensure we continue to do great work across the Xbox business, and bring more of the magic of Xbox to all form factors, including tablets, PCs, and phones.”
Spencer will report to Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s EVP of operating systems. He will work closely with Yusuf Mehdi, who leads business strategy and marketing for Xbox, as well as George Peckham, who heads up third-party partnerships.
During his time at Microsoft, Spencer has spearheaded many content-related initiatives at the company, including the formation of Xbox Entertainment Studios.Tags: Microsoft Studios, Nancy Tellem, phil spencer, Xbox, Xbox Entertainment Studios, Xbox Live
