MIPTV Launches ‘MIP Digital Fronts,’ Welcomes YouTube as Founding Partner
Per the announcement, the MIP Digital Fronts wants to be “the first international digital content marketplace for the production, distribution, and acquisition of high-quality original content produced exclusively for online audiences.” A two-day program, the Digital Fronts will consist of 45-minute screenings from various online video platforms, studios, and channels for an audience that ostensibly includes international buyers, producers, distributors, agencies, and brands. It will also feature on-stage interviews with producers, executives, and talent behind the content — just like any other upfront or “Newfront” you’ve been to.
As the first founding partner, YouTube will present a 45-minute “showcase” of new channels and content partners on the site. “MIPTV offers a great international platform to reach the world’s entertainment community and we are proud to be one of the founding partners of the new MIP Digital Fronts,” said Ben McOwen Wilson, director of YouTube EMEA, in the announcement. “The new MIP Digital Fronts initiative will offer an excellent global platform for YouTube creators, digital studios, and traditional television and film studios to promote their web video talent and programming.”
The 2014 MIPTV will take place April 7-10 in Cannes, France.
