Berlin: European Film Market Chief Matthijs Wouter Knol on Embracing Drama Series

his year, for the first time, the European Film Market allowed producers and sales companies representing up-market drama series to sell their shows at the EFM with the introduction of Drama Series Days, a platform for serial content. It also introduced CoPro Series as part of the Berlinale Co-Production Market, with six handpicked serial projects. Historical Film Archive British Pathé Inks Distribution Deal with Rightster

Per the two-year deal, Rightster will manage British Pathé’s entire YouTube business, with a focus on audience development and revenue generation, the companies said. The goal will be to attract younger audiences, specifically those between the ages of 16 and 24, to British Pathé’s archival videos. The archive currently has 85,000 videos on its YouTube channel, which has close to 370,000 subscribers.

The film is slated to go into production in April, shooting in Ireland and South Africa. The project was brought to the European Film Market at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival by Alex Walton’s Bloom; the deal with Netflix was negotiated by UTA Independent Film Group.
