Apple in Talks With Comcast About Streaming-TV Service

Apple Inc. in talks with Comcast Corp. about teaming up for a streaming-television service that would use an Apple set-top box and get special treatment on Comcast’s cables to ensure it bypasses congestion on the Web, people familiar with the matter say.

Per Deadline, actress Mena Suvari (“American Pie” and “American Beauty”) will headline a new drama pilot called “Hysteria,” which comes from “Invasion” creator Shaun Cassidy and Alcon Entertainment.

YouTube in Firing Line Again in Turkey’s Crackdown of Social Media

The Turkish government’s attack on social media is picking up speed as YouTube comes under the spotlight for refusing to take down video content that alleges government corruption. Google received requests from Turkey to remove certain videos but responded that there was no legal basis for doing so. Last week, the country instigated a block on Twitter, citing false accusations of political and economic corruption.



Hulu Hit With Class-Action Suit Over Automatic Renewals

It’s nothing nefarious, but some California subscribers to the streaming service have a gripe with the way their accounts have been handled. A 52-page class-action lawsuit (read it here) filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court claims that Hulu since December 2010 has made automatic renewal offers throughout California but failed to specify the terms “in a clear and conspicuous manner,” charged cards or accounts without subscribers’ “affirmative consent” and “failed to provide an acknowledgement that includes the automatic renewal or continuous service offer terms, cancellation policy, and information regarding how to cancel in a manner that is capable of being retained by the consumer”.

Users who do link to their social media accounts will have a more personalized viewing experience, which delivers recommended videos based on what your social connections have watched and liked.


AOL brings its video-on-demand platform, AOL On, to the UK

AOL has launched its on-demand video platform, AOL ON, for UK audiences. In a nutshell, ‘On’ brings all the company’s premium video content together under one digital roof, and features a mix of curated and original content. Though it was originally aimed at US audiences only, it has been catering for Canadians since September last year too.
