Google’s Android TV May Be Joining the Race to Take Over Your Living Room

Just days after Amazon released its set-top box, Fire TV, it is being reported that Google are back in the race with their own version, called Android TV. The move comes a few years after the company first dipped their toe in the water with Google TV, a device that failed to set consumers alight, due to an overly complicated navigation system. While Google TV used Android technology, the new set-top box has been rebuilt up from the ground into a different beast, one more in common with Roku, Apple TV and the new Amazon Fire TV.

YouTube Tests Out New Dynamic Video Player Feature

YouTube appears to be testing out a new video player feature which will dynamically change the player’s dimensions, depending on the user’s browser window’s size. For instance, when a Chrome page is resized, YouTube changes from 360p to 480p and to 720p, and the video player gets bigger. This experiment is testing the automatic responsive design of the player which means that users won’t need to do a thing.

With the new dynamic design you can see the same video in a larger player (480p) and an almost fullscreen player (720p) on a 1080p display

How YouTube Can Brilliantly Solve Their Music Service Issues

YouTube is delaying its music service … AGAIN. Apparently YouTube is somewhat nervous about the manner in which their service looks. Considering that there is already extremely stiff competition from Spotify, Pandora and Rdio, YouTube wants to come out full guns blazing. But apparently they have a problem: What about all those songs that don’t have music videos? It is YouTube after all, you gotta have video accompaniment.

French Film Goes Viral, but Not in France

The main character is a harried parent just trying to slog through the routine of the day: dropping off the toddler at day care, picking up the mail, running errands. But in “Oppressed Majority” (“Majorité Opprimée”), a provocative short film by the French screenwriter and director Eléonore Pourriat, the parent doing the chores is a man, and all the gender roles are reversed, creating a world in which men confront what it would be like to face the daily indignities, compromises and risks that women often face because of their appearance, second-class status in the workplace and gender bias.
