This Is How You Stream Netflix to the Moon

Sending high-definition video across the internet is no big deal. More than 44 million people watch movies and TV shows via Netflix. But Mark Stevens recently took things a little further. He sent some high-def video to the moon.

Everybody’s Talking About Viewability And That Ain’t Good

I don’t run a Website, an ad agency or a trade organization, but it’s apparent the viewability problem once confined to buzz at online video conferences and stories on sites like this one has found a life of its own. It’s gone viral.

Southeast Asia, Australia Taking Programmatic Video Seriously

The vast majority of programmatic advertising may take place in the U.S., but it’s always worthwhile to take a step back and view the marketplace from a global perspective. The UK has been considered the No. 2 place-to-be for programmatic ad buying, but Southeast Asia and Australia have both emerged as regions of interest. U.S.-based companies have noticed this, and several have opened up offices and built up teams to support growth in those areas.

Was This the Real Reason Why Amazon Fired a Former Netflix Licensing Guru?

Do you access your company e-mail on your personal smartphone? Ever do work on your home computer? If so, you’re not alone, but a pending lawsuit from a former Netflix executive named Jerry Kowal might demonstrate why such habits aren’t particularly wise.

What’s New On Netflix Streaming In June

It’s a new month, and that means a bunch of awesome new movies and television shows being added to the Netflix catalog. This month’s list has plenty of excellent movies and shows — and some not so excellent — but there’s likely something here to satisfy any taste.

In The Future, Everyone Will Have A Personalized TV Channel

Your TV is living in the dark ages. At least, that’s according to Neil Hunt, the chief product officer at Netflix. Hunt, who delivered a keynote speech at the 2014 Internet Week in New York, predicts that personalization and on-demand viewing and streaming are really the way of the future when it comes to entertainment.

Netflix Loves Big Data, But Won’t Use It To Make TV Shows

Netflix has more than 48 million subscribers, and it knows a ton about all of them: What they watch, when they watch, when they stop watching. Netflix uses all of that data to help it pick and fund shows, like “House of Cards”, and to help promote different shows to different people. But it insists that it won’t use all of that Big Data to make shows.

He Said, He Said: the Comcast-Netflix Edition

Plenty of entertainment and tech executives like to privately complain about cable/Internet giant Comcast Corp. but few have been brave enough to do it as publicly as Netflix chief Reed Hastings. Hastings’s recent complaints about having to pay Comcast more so Netflix subscribers can watch streaming videos without interruption have prompted a fair bit of pushback from Comcast*, which is trying to win approval from regulators to buy Time Warner Cable.

When VideoInk interviewed Link from the comedy duo Rhett & Link earlier this year as part of a Playlist Live interview series, he picked Flula Borg as a fellow YouTuber to watch out for in 2014. That comment seems prophetic in hindsight with the news that Borg, who specializes in absurdist comedy and music videos on the world’s biggest site, has signed on to star in “Pitch Perfect 2.”
