Nerdist Knocks YouTube’s Stickiness, Commenters at Comic-Con

YouTube is losing some of its luster, at least according to Nerdist Industries co-founder Chris Hardwick. On Saturday, the stand-up comedian and TV personality told a heavily attended panel atComic-Con in San Diego that his multimedia entertainment company will no longer put its videos on YouTube first, instead directing fans to its own site. The reason, he said, is that people often come to YouTube for a single video, and then leave.

VidAngel is powered by a volunteer community of avid fans of family-friendly video. Think Wikipedia for family-friendly video filters. Members of the community tag potentially offensive swearing, sex and violence in movies, TV shows and YouTube videos. These tags allow viewers to filter what they see and hear based on their personal values and content preferences.

Hulu Plus Picks Up Streaming Rights To WGN Drama ‘Manhattan’

Hulu’s subscription service Hulu Plus has bought exclusive VOD rights to stream online episodes of WGN America‘s new historical drama Manhattan, the companies announced the morning after the show’s debut. Under the deal, new episodes of the show will unspool each Monday after their initial Sunday airing on WGN until all 13 have played. The five most recent episodes will be available for free on Hulu’s basic service, after a three-day delay.
