MSNBC Debuts New Video Hub to Grab More Online Viewers
The goal of Shift is to provide news coverage of important events and stories to those who are increasingly watching such content anywhere but their TV sets, according to MSNBC. Via the hub, the cable news network will air original, in-depth programming covering many of the news topics its viewers are interested in. It will also provide updates on the latest stories and developments via video clips sourced from MSNBC TV shows.
At launch, Shift’s originals slate spans 15 shows across news verticals like culture, tech, sports, and economics. These shows will usually run for one hour, with new episodes debuting at least once a week. The slate includes:
- “The Briefing,” a political program hosted by Luke Russert that will air on Mondays and Fridays;
- “Road Map,” hosted by new MSNBC contributor Ayman Mohyeldin, which will provide the backstories behind international headlines;
- “Krystal Clear,” in which host Krystal Ball discusses pressing women’s issues in the news;
- “So Popular!” with Janet Mock, who will recap the week in pop culture;
- “Left Field,” which will explore the controversies in and the business of sports (a host has not been named yet);
- “Three Cents,” which is described as a fast-paced look at the economy, hosted by MSNBC contributor Josh Barro;
- “Code Forward,” a tech news show in partnership with Recode, which MSNBC parent NBCUniversal is an investor in.
