NBCUniversal Launches Digital Channel for Fitness Content
NBCUniversal has launched a new SVOD streaming channel for fitness and lifestyle programming.
Called Radius, the channel offers workout videos developed by and featuring fitness personalities like Basheerah Ahmad, Nicky Holender, Keoni Hudoba, Alex ISaly, and Natalie Uhling. These videos are parceled as fitness programs customized to different fitness levels and interests. For instance, beginners could choose to follow the “Jumpstart” content lineup, whereas workout junkies could opt for “Venom for Radius.” NBCUniversal will add new trainers and fitness programs to its library on an ongoing basis.
In addition to the trainer-led videos, NBCUniversal is partnering with Under Armour to create co-branded original content for Radius. It’s part of a broader deal between the two companies; as the “exclusive apparel and footwear provider” for the channel, Under Armour gear will be featured on Radius programming, and can also be purchased through the channel.
Most of the content on Radius will be produced by Dragonfly Productions and NBCUniversal’s own LX.TV.
At launch, Radius is available online and via apps for the iPhone and iPad for $9.99 per month. The price is nearly identical to that of CosmoBody’s, a competing fitness SVOD channel launched by Hearst earlier this year.
Beyond digital platforms, NBCUniversal will move some Radius content to TV, via a daily three-hour (6am-9am) programming block on NBC Sports Network. The company also plans to launch an on-demand channel for Radius on Comcast’s Xfinity On Demand platform. Under this arrangement, Comcast will also make Radius accessible on its Xfinity TV Go apps.Tags: CosmoBody, Dragonfly Productions, fitness, health, Hearst Corporation, LX.TV, NBCUniversal, OTT, Radius, SVOD, under armour
