Nerdist, BBC, and YouTube to Host ‘Doctor Who’ 50th Anniversary Pre-Show
The Doctor is celebrating his 50th birthday at YouTube Space LA, well, he’s technically thousands of years old, but you get the idea. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the “Doctor Who” franchise, BBC America and Nerdist Industries are holding a live simulcast on November 23, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Live streamed to audiences across the world on BBC America’s YouTube channel and to those who have BBC America, the event will act as a pre-show to the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special “Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor,” which will air across the globe at 2:50 p.m. ET.
In the spirit of all things Who, the party at YouTube Space LA will feature curation of fan-created content from across the globe, which will be shared across social media platforms. Special guest Whovians will also be in attendance, including Philip DeFranco who will speak about “Doctor Who” and the show’s impact on his life.
Hosting the event will be Veronica Belmont, co-host of the YouTube program “Sword and Laser,” which is part of Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry digital network.“I’m happy to report that the live pre-show went off without a hitch, and that fans everywhere thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Day of the Doctor’,” Belmont said. “At least, they did in the time stream I just came from.”
Immediately after the premiere of “Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor,” BBC America’s YouTube channel will host a YouTube-exclusive post-show at 4 p.m. ET.
Leading up to the 50th anniversary, YouTube will celebrate a week-long “Doctor Who” week with Tardis-fueled videos from Nerdist, Doctor Puppet, PBS Idea Channel, Rugburn, How to Cook That, and Emergency Awesome.
The “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special is produced by Nerdist Industries for BBC America. Chris Hardwick and Seth Laderman of Nerdist are executive producers.Tags: chris hardwick, Doctor Who, The Nerdist, youtube, Youtube Space LA
