Nerdist Channel Gives Us All ‘Reasons to Be Scared of the Future’
The Nerdist Channel is afraid of the future. Hell, we all should be; with drones aplenty and those motion-sensor singing sea bass toys, T-1000 is just around the corner. It’s why Rhys Darby, host of the Nerdist Channel’s new show “Reasons to Be Scared of the Future,” is, well, so scared of the future.
The new series, which will air weekly every Thursday exclusively on the Nerdist YouTube channel, shines a light at the latest breakthroughs in science and details why we should be horrified of their existence. In episode one (airing today), Darby tells viewers about a University of Texas-Austin supercomputer capable of basic neural networking. The computer, codename DISCERN, eventually went insane and began referring to itself in the third person. Perfect, that is terrifying.
“Reasons to Be Scared of the Future” is produced by Principato-Young Entertainment in partnership with digital studio Kids at Play. The two worked together previously on “Tiny Commando,” an action/adventure series starring Zachary Levi and Ed Helms, which aired in September as part of Yahoo’s fall comedy slate. The show is executive produced by PYE’s VP of digital Corey Moss and Kids at Play’s Jason Berger, while Michael Rainey serves as the writer.
