Netflix, Amazon Are Going to the Golden Globes
The Golden Globes nominations are in, and as expected, Netflix and Amazon are in the thick of it.
Netflix landed seven total nominations, three for its political drama “House of Cards,” another three for its prison dramedy “Orange Is the New Black,” and one for the Ricky Gervais comedy “Derek.”
“House of Cards” is nominated in the best drama category, where it will compete with Showtime’s “The Affair,” PBS’ “Downton Abbey,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” and CBS’ “The Good Wife.” The show also netted acting nominations for its two main actors, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
“Orange Is the New Black” has a similar showing. The series nominated in the best comedy/musical category, alongside the likes of HBO’s “Girls,” The CW’s “Jane the Virgin,” HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” and Amazon’s “Transparent.” Its main actor, Taylor Schilling, is up for best actress in a comedy/musical, while Uzo Aduba is nominated for best supporting actress in a comedy/musical.
In addition to its best comedy/musical series nomination, Amazon’s “Transparent” has a second nomination. Jeffrey Tambor, who headlines the series, is up for best actor in a comedy/musical, alongside Louis CK (“Louie”), Don Cheadle (“House of Lies”), Ricky Gervais (“Derek”), and William H. Macy (“Shameless”).
The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will be hosted for the third time by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will take place on January 11.Tags: 2015 Golden Globes, Amazon, Amazon Originals, Derek, Golden Globes, house of cards, Netflix, netflix originals, Orange Is the New Black, transparent
