Netflix and Amazon Will Go Head-to-Head at the 2015 Writers Guild Awards
For the 2015 Writers Guild Awards, “House of Cards” was nominated alongside HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “True Detective,” AMC’s “Mad Men”, and CBS’ “The Good Wife” for best drama series. “Orange Is the Black” received a nomination for best comedy series, and will be going head-to-head with FX’s “Louie,” HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and “Veep,” and Amazon’s “Transparent.”
Premiering earlier this year, that’s the first WGA nomination for “Transparent” — and considering the critical love it has received, there probably will be many more.
The comedy series from “Six Feet Under” scribe Jill Soloway was also nominated by the WGA for best new series and best episodic comedy. In the first category, it will compete with “Silicon Valley,” “True Detective,” Showtime’s “The Affair,” and Cinemax’s “The Knick.” In the latter, it will compete with “Orange Is the New Black,” “Louie,” ABC’s “Modern Family,” and Fox’s “New Girl.”
The Writers Guild recognizes shorter web series under the Short-Form New Media category. Among the nominees in this category, the New York-set comedy “High Maintenance,” which was picked up by Vimeo for a second season earlier this year. (The episode nominated by the WGA was from season one.) Other nominees include Geek & Sundry’s “City of Angles,” and independent series like “Bad Shorts,” “F to 7th,” and “Vicky and Lysander.”
The awards will be handed out on Saturday, February 14, during simultaneous ceremonies taking place in New York and Los Angeles.Tags: 2015 Writers Guild Awards, Amazon, Amazon Originals, Amazon Studios, Geek & Sundry, High Maintenance, house of cards, Netflix, netflix originals, Orange Is the New Black, transparent, Vimeo, Writers Guild Awards, Writers Guild of America
