Netflix, LoveFilm Launch PS4 Apps in the UK
Netflix and LoveFilm, an Amazon-owned subscription VOD service that’s attempting to compete with Netflix in the UK, have launched apps for the PlayStation 4.
There’s nothing particularly new about the Netflix and LoveFilm apps for the PS4 — both offer access to a wide range of movies and TV shows, as well as original programming produced for each platform. For instance, since the service is owned by Amazon, LoveFilm’s app offers users the chance to watch the original pilots and series produced by Amazon Studios.
“The PS3 is already one of the most popular ways for our members to access the wide range of film and TV shows available on LoveFilm,” said Simon Morris, CMO at LoveFilm, in a statement, “so we’re really excited to bring our streaming app to the next generation of this console.”
The PS4, which arrived in the UK this week, two weeks after it launched in the US, might be more popular in the UK than its direct competitor, the Xbox One. Reports out of the country indicate that the PS4 is already on track to outsell Xbox’s next-generation gaming console (sorry: all-in-one home entertainment system).
Makes all the more sense for LoveFilm and Netflix to have apps ready and out by launch day.
In addition to the standard Watchlist feature, the LoveFilm app is powered by Amazon’s Whispersync technology, which allows users to resume watching a piece of content from the moment they stopped watching, regardless of the LoveFilm-supported device they’re accessing the service on.Tags: Amazon, Amazon Studios, lovefilm, Microsoft, Netflix, ps3, PS4, sony, xbox one
