Netflix continues to beef up its original programming slate for kids, ordering a new animated movie and ensuing TV series based on toy-maker Mattel’s popular Ever After High franchise.

The Ever After High product line focuses on the teenaged children of popular fairy-tale characters like Snow White and the Evil Queen. The brand spans fashion dolls, books, music videos, and other consumer products.

Mattel, through its Mattel Playground Productions division, also produces an animated web series called “Ever After High,” which is currently available on Netflix.

Now Netflix and Mattel are going deeper into this partnership with “Ever After High Spring Unsprung,” a new animated movie targeted for an early 2015 release. Following the events of the movie, Netflix will roll out a 12-episode TV series, which will continue the story. Existing popular characters from the Ever After High line will be featured in the show, as well as new ones set to be introduced throughout the run.

Both the movie and the show will be available in all Netflix territories. The streaming service intends to expand to Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxembourg by the end of 2014.

This is the third original kids series ordered by Netflix in the past week, following partnerships with Scholastic Media and DreamWorks Animation to distribute new shows based on children’s favorites “Magic School Bus” and “Dinotrux,” respectively.

The deal with Mattel is also interesting as Netflix is ordering a full-length movie in addition to a TV series. The company has previously expressed its desire to move into feature-length original programming, but largely has focused on documentaries and stand-up specials to date.
