Netflix Picks Up Documentary Film from Bloomberg Businessweek
Netflix’s first original/exclusive documentary film will be from Bloomberg Businessweek, which produced “Hank: Five Years from the Brink,” a film about the global financial crisis, and will premiere it on the streaming service on September 16.
Co-produced by Bloomberg Businessweek and RadicalMedia, the documentary features the former US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and is timed to the fifth anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers. In the film, Paulson explains why he advocated the $1 trillion bailouts.
“HANK,” which marks the debut of the new Bloomberg Businessweek Films shingle, is directed by Oscar and Emmy nominated filmmaker Joe Berlinger (“Brother’s Keeper, “Paradise Lost” trilogy). In the announcement, Bloomberg Businessweek Films indicates that it will look to produce as well as acquire “visual, complex, and emotionally rewarding business stories.” The film unit is led by Josh Tyrangiel, editor and producer at Bloomberg Businessweek.
“HANK” will be available in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland on September 16, and the remaining Netflix territories on November 1. The film will be distributed by Virgil Film and Entertainment. Submarine brokered the deal with Virgil and Netflix on behalf of Bloomberg Businessweek.
