Netflix Sets Premiere Date for Season Two of ‘Lilyhammer’
It’s easy to forget that “House of Cards” wasn’t Netflix’s first foray into original programming — it was just the biggest. The first was “Lilyhammer,” a gangster-comedy starring Steven Van Zandt of “The Sopranos” and the E Street Band, which debuted on Netflix in early 2012, a year before “House of Cards” arrived into our collective consciousness.
Today, Netflix is announcing the premiere date for the second season of “Lilyhammer,” which will roll out in the US, Canada, and Latin America on Friday, December 13. As is the custom with Netflix, all eight hour-long episodes of the drama will be available all at once, beginning at 12:01 am PT.
The comedy-drama follows a New York mob fixer (Van Zandt) who enters the federal witness protection program and is relocated to Lillehammer, Norway. Trouble ensues when his former bosses find out he is still alive.
“Lilyhammer” comes from Rubicon TV AS and co-creators Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin. It’s produced by Rubicon TV AS and co-produced by Netflix for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) and Netflix in association with Red Arrow International. In Norway, a Netflix territory, the show airs on the NRK1 channel. Executive producers include Lasse Hallberg and Van Zandt, with Trond Berg Nilsen and Agnete Thuland on board as producers.
