Netflix Sets Premiere Date for ‘Lilyhammer’ Season 3
Season three of Netflix’s first original series, the crime dramedy “Lilyhammer,” will debut on the streaming service on Friday, November 21.
Starring Steven Van Zandt (“The Sopranos”), “Lilyhammer” follows the exploits of a former gangster who starts a new life under the federal witness protection program in Lillehammer, Norway. As is usually the case with these types of situations, his past tries to catch up with him.
In season three, Van Zandt’s character treks to Brazil to save a lovestruck friend who has found himself in trouble with the law.
The eight new, hour-long episodes of the series will be available on Netflix in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Latin America, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
“‘Lilyhammer’ is a funny and fantastic example of programming for a global audience — a comedic culture clash that’s drawn in viewers from around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, in a statement. “We’re especially proud of the many international awards the show has earned, cementing its cross-cultural appeal.”
The show recently won multiple awards at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, including Best International Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy for Van Zandt. It also took home the Gullruten (Norway’s top entertainment award) for best TV drama and best actor (which was won by Trond Fausa).
“Lilyhammer” was created by Anne Bjornstad and Eilif Skodvin, developed and produced by Rubicon TV AS, and co-produced by Netflix for Norwegian broadcaster NRK (which airs the series domestically) and Netflix. Executive producers include Pal Kruke Kristiansen, Anne Kolbjornsen, and Steven Van Zandt.
In addition to acting, writing, and executive producing for the series, Van Zandt will direct the final episode of the third season.Tags: Lilyhammer, Netflix, netflix originals, NRK, Rubicon AS TV, Steven Van Zandt
