Netflix Works Out Deal with Comcast to End Web Traffic Jam
Netflix is setting up an “interconnection” agreement with Comcast in a deal that’s designed to make it easier for Comcast subscribers to stream Netflix content. Essentially, Netflix has agreed to pay Comcast to have access to its broadband network.
Slower speeds on Netflix has been an issue for the past several months, and precedes the recent court rulings and furor over net neutrality. What the streaming company is trying to resolve here with Comcast will assure that Comcast subscribers won’t have to worry about a jammed up Netflix user experience.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and Comcast CEO Brian Roberts worked out this deal at last month’s International CES in Las Vegas. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though it’s contracted for multiple years.Tags: CES, Comcast, net neutrality, Netflix
