New PBS Digital Series Gives You ‘Everything But the News’

PBS Digital Studios is launching a new series called “Everything But the News,” a companion show of sorts tied to PBS’ flagship news program “PBS NewsHour.”

The comedy series — and it’s definitely a comedy series — follows Steve Goldbloom, a “freelance reporter” who’s assigned by “PBS NewsHour” to cover a variety of topics, the hope being that this paves the way for him to land him a regular gig with the news program. (Which, the announcement assures us, will never happen.)

This is because Goldbloom isn’t exactly a top-notch journalist, and his interview skills leave a lot to be desired.

“Everything But the News” will run for 10 weeks, with a new episode rolling out on PBS Digital Studios’ YouTube channel every Wednesday. Topics to be covered include transportation and dating and fitness in San Francisco, as well as interviews with executives from Bay Area companies like Uber, Lyft, JDate, and FitBit.

The first episode, which launched earlier today, tackles the Hank and John Green’s YouTube mega-conference, VidCon.

In addition to the PBS Digital Studios YouTube channel, “Everything But the News” will be available on PBS.org, as well as the network’s apps for Xbox, Roku, and Apple TV.

The show is created by Goldbloom and Noah Pink, and written and produced by Goldbloom, Pink, and Daniel Rattner. Pink also directed. Executive producers include Matt Vree and Kevin Dando, and Pamm Higgins for ITVS.
