Mountain Dew and Robert Rodriguez Launch Online Filmmaking Contest

Mountain Dew is teaming with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez to launch Green Label Studios: Open Call, an online filmmaking contest to find new talent for Green-Label.com, a youth culture-focused digital media hub from Mountain Dew and Complex Media.

The open call invites content creators across genres to submit their work for a shot at the ultimate prize: $250,000 towards production costs on content for Green-Label.com. Additionally, the big winner will earn a mentorship from acclaimed film director Robert Rodriguez, founder of El Rey Network, and Roberto Orci, executive producer and writer of “Matador,” a fresh action show that airs on Rodriguez’s channel.

The competition will hold two rounds, the first of which will award 10 filmmakers with $10,000 each in production grants to create videos that demonstrate how they “Do the Dew.” As the announcement explains it, each entry should “showcase the filmmakers’ unique take on their world, what they are passionate about, and how they celebrate those passions.”

Judges will include the Mountain Dew and Green-Label.com editorial teams, with a Green Label Studios panel choosing the final winner this summer in New York City. Only one of the ten will receive the $250,000 production grant and the mentorships.

Beginning with its announcement on March 12th, the DEW contest will go until April 25th.
