Ovation TV Launches YouTube MCN, Pitches Creators Various TV Opportunities

Ovation TV, a TV network focused on the arts, wants in on the YouTube craze.

The company has launched Ovation Digital Arts, a new multi-channel network that will aim to help YouTube stars grow their business by providing various audience development services, including opportunities to reach new fans on TV.

Focused exclusively on film, music, fashion, and the arts, Ovation’s TV network currently reaches more than 54 million US households via cable, satellite, and telco providers such as Comcast, Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, Dish, and Verizon FiOS. Ovation also offers content via VOD services into 30 million homes.

It’s this reach that will serve as the centerpiece for Ovation’s MCN business. “Ovation Digital Arts has taken the MCN model and refined it for the artist community. Unlike the big, clearinghouse MCNs that have to sign tens of thousands of channels and can leave some of their partners feeling forgotten, our creators’ community will be highly curated and focused on the artists themselves,” said Ovation CEO Charles Segars in a statement.

The MCN will be led by Stephen Dypiangco, who’s been named VP of Ovation Digital Arts. Dypiangco comes to Ovation from “YouTube Nation,” where he was channel manager and was responsible for growing subscribers and views for the channel/series (which came out of a partnership between YouTube and DreamWorks Animation). Dypiangco’s resume also includes time with the National Film Society (helping launch the PBS Digital Studios MCN) and Netflix.

“Targeted distribution and promotion to arts-loving viewers is where we excel, and we will actively spotlight our channel partners on Ovation shows, invite them to host programs, and source their talents for new original programming,” said Dypiangco, of Ovation Digital Arts’s plans.

Initial channel partners for the MCN include “accomplished artists in the fields of dance, photography, drawing/animation, painting, music, and more,” the network said. Ovation’s own YouTube channel, Ovation TV, will also be managed by Ovation Digital Arts.

In addition to various TV opportunities, Ovation Digital Arts will assist partners in securing distribution to non-YouTube digital platforms, as well as provide ad sales, crowdfunding, digital rights management, and business affairs support.
