PBS and John Green to Teach You a Thing or Two About Art in Upcoming Web Series
PBS is partnering with YouTube creator, VidCon co-founder, and author John Green and his wife Sarah Urist Green on a new weekly series called “The Art Assignment.”
Expected to launch on PBS Digital Studios’ YouTube channel in early 2014, the series will look to spotlight emerging and established artists in the US. The series will have an audience engagement element to it as each featured artist will create an “assignment” for viewers, who can then respond via photos and videos posted to YouTube, PBS.org, and other social media platforms.
“We believe the web has enormous power to bring art to a new and diverse audience,” said Sarah Urist Green in a statement. “The series will showcase contemporary art as accessible and social, rather than distant or intimidating.” Urist Green is an art curator, most recently with the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
The PBS Digital Studios channel on YouTube currently offers over 20 original, educational web series. These include the Webby-winning “PBS Idea Channel” as well as programs like “Blank on Blank” and “It’s Okay to Be Smart.” The PBS channel reaches more than 500,000 subscribers and has collected over 40 million views to date.
“The Art Assignment” will be executive produced by John and Sarah Urist Green. Check out the trailer:
