Philip DeFranco’s For Human Peoples to Blend Commerce & Content

Additional details about Philip DeFranco’s latest YouTube channel For Human Peoples have surfaced courtesy of TheWrap. The new channel, which launches on Monday, October 14, will initially feature two commerce-based shows.

For Human Peoples’ first show, “Weekly Awesome Showcase” will accept clothing designs from viewers and feature the best ones on DeFranco’s merch site. The design that receives the most sales will remain on the site for an extended period of time while also netting its creator a $1,000 bonus.

The second show, although not as fully fleshed-out as “Weekly Awesome Showcase, will feature non-episodic branded shorts. Discovery Digital CEO Jim Louderback did not offer any additional details to TheWrap, except to say that previous attempts at merchandise-driven web shows have not been, in his eyes, a total success.

For Human Peoples was announced by DeFranco earlier this week during an episode of “The Philip DeFranco Show.” And while For Human Peoples seems primarily merchandise-based, DeFranco said he and Discovery plan to “build out” the channel’s community beyond “people buying stuff.”

The new channel will be the first developed by DeFranco since his network of shows — including hit program SourceFed — was purchased by Discovery Digital Media.
