Ray William Johnson Names New Host for ‘Equals Three’
The YouTube series that made Ray William Johnson a household name (at least among all the kids who watch stuff on YouTube) finally has a new host. Johnson, who produces, writes, and directs “Equals Three” has announced that newcomer Robby Motz will be the new face of the series, which comments on trending news and stories.
Motz is completely new to YouTube. The 20-year-old, who beat out a crowd of more than 1,000 applicants, will be taking a leave of absence from college to move to LA and host the show. Johnson and the team behind “Equals Three” have signed Motz to a one-year contract, according to Variety, which first reported the casting.
Until Motz lands on his feet, Johnson will continue to write and direct the show, which will debut new episodes every Tuesday and Friday, beginning today. The new episode isn’t up yet, but here’s a video of Johnson talking about the new episode:
Earlier this year, Johnson announced that he would seek a new host for “Equals Three,” after previously claiming that he was going to axe the show in favor of other creative endeavors.
In addition to digital series he produces through his company Runaway Planet, Johnson is also set to star alongside RJ Mitte (“Breaking Bad”) and Paloma Kwiatkowski (“Bates Motel”) in the indie film “Who’s Driving Doug.”
Since that announcement in the spring, Johnson’s YouTube channel has remained relatively dormant, though it still claims more than 10.6 million subscribers. The channel will continue to be the home for “Equal Three.”Tags: Casting, Equals Three, Ray William Johnson, Robby Motz, YouTube Creators
