Ricky Gervais’ ‘Derek’ Returns to Netflix in May
Netflix has set the premiere date for season two of its quasi-original comedy series, Ricky Gervais’ “Derek,” which will arrive on Friday, March 30, at 12:01am PT.
Starring, written, directed, and executive produced by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Ricky Gervais, “Derek” tells the story of its titular character, a man who works at and cares for people at a retirement home.
The half-hour show was originally commissioned by Channel 4 for broadcast in the UK. However, Netflix had exclusive rights to the first season in all of the other territories it operates in, including the US. Same goes for season two, which spans six episodes.
“Ricky is a terrific partner and he has created a heartfelt character, in Derek, that Netflix members have fallen in love with,” said Netflix content boss Ted Sarandos in a statement. “His attention to detail and relentless vision to change conventional storytelling on television is perfectly aligned with what we are trying to do with our original series.”
