Shane Dawson Sells Workplace Comedy to NBC
YouTuber Shane Dawson has sold a single-camera workplace comedy that’s somewhat based on his own life to NBC.
Titled “Losin’ It,” the half-hour comedy pulls from Dawson’s experiences as someone who used to be overweight. Per the announcement, the show takes place at a “suburban weight loss center franchise that gets thrown into upheaval when its most successful client decides to share his inspiration by becoming a consultant there — only to then find himself promoted to manager by the end of the first day.”
Dawson used to work at a Jenny Craig when he launched his YouTube channel in 2009. He is known for having lost 150 pounds after experiencing a rough childhood. Today he has over 9 million subscribers across three channels on YouTube.
The show is executive produced by Dawson, Darlene Hunt (“The Big C”), Will Gluck, and Richie Schwartz and is set up through Sony Pictures Television. Hunt is also on board to write from a script originally written by Dawson and his producing partner Lauren Schnipper.
Dawson, Hunt, and Gluck, are repped by UTA.Tags: development, nbc, Shane Dawson, uta, web to tv, youtube, YouTube Creators
