Showyou Adds TV-Like Continuous Stream to Mobile Video App
Online video platform Showyou’s latest app update brings with it a viewing experience that’s supposed to be just like how you watch TV.
Available today on the iPhone and iPad, users can now click on the app and immediately start watching a continuous stream of content. Showyou says it populates content to this stream based on the channels you subscribe to, what you and your friends have liked before, your interests, and location.
That said, users can move away from the initial stream and watch something from their personalized channel lineup if they want to. The personalized lineup has channels from “hundreds” of media companies and brands, as well as individual creators and curators on the platform. Users can also watch channels that bring up videos shared by friends on social networks. If you want to really get crazy, there are also hundreds of thousands of channels created by regular joes like you that you can search through.
Though the new 5.1 experience is only available on the iPhone and iPad today, Showyou plans to introduce the update for Chromecast in the coming weeks. Showyou says the Chromecast version will serve as a preview of sorts for a connected-TV version of the app, which is planned to launch later this year.
Android and Kindle Fire versions, meanwhile, are set to go live in mid-March.Tags: Android, Chromecast, iOS, Kindle Fire, mobile video, ShowYou, social video, Video Discovery
