Showyou Cleans Up Its Website, Updates Android App
After debuting its channel platform in the summer, social video service Showyou.com has unveiled a new design meant to offer an uncluttered viewing experience with video at the center.
The Showyou platform focuses on providing web video content hand-selected by its users, based on what they have shared on Facebook and Twitter as well as what the people they follow and are friends with have shared on the same social networks. To date, there are over 105 million videos on Showyou.
The team behind Showyou wants to make the platform the go-to place for finding videos you are likely to watch, and in that process serve as an improvement on sites like YouTube and Vimeo, which many claim to have a big discovery problem. In June, Showyou rolled out a channel platform that allows users to categorize content by the things they themselves are interested in.
In addition, Showyou has spent the past several months creating topic-based channels, and says it has already pulled 30 million videos into two million topic-based channels. This, the company says, sets it up to soon roll out an interest graph, which will give users the ability to follow channels and allow Showyou to adjust feeds on-the-fly “based on topic affinity.” Today Showyou users can check out channels for topics like tattoos, Bruce Lee, Guinness World Records, robots, haute couture, British comedy, and ducks, among many, many others.
On top of the site redesign, Showyou has also released an update to its Android app, which matches the user experience on iOS. The new Android app also brings compatibility for Android tablets.Tags: Android, Apps, ShowYou, social video, Video Discovery, Vimeo, youtube
