Starz Digital Adds Two Shows to YouTube Comedy Slate
Starz Digital Media, a subsidiary of the Starz premium TV channel company, has added two new shows to its YouTube comedy channel, Union Pool.
“Llama Cop,” which is set to premiere on April 1, is a live-action buddy-cop comedy. In the show, a by-the-books detective is paired with a renegade cop who plays by his own roles, and who also happens to be a llama. Created by Maximilian Clark and Walter Masterson (who plays Riggs Bauer, the straight-edge cop), “Llama Cop” was directed by Charlie Zwick. Cast includes Masterson, Anthony D. Charity (“House of Lies”), Vanessa Lengies (“Glee”), YouTuber Lauren Francesca, and Sunny Mabrey (“The Client List”).
The second show, “Popcorn Addicts,” will debut on April 15. Co-produced by Reckless Tortuga, this sketch comedy series will parody current blockbuster films and TV shows, as well as the fanboy culture at large. Upcoming videos include “Assistants to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Inertia, from the creators of ‘Gravity’.” “Popcorn Addicts” cast members include Eric Pumphrey (“The Online Gamer”), Tommy Savas (“The Last Ship”), and Angie Simms (“Skin Traffik”).
Meanwhile, Starz will also air new episodes of “Tvoovies.” an animated series that mashes up two pop culture films and TV shows into one. Future episodes will include “Zero Dark 30 Rock” and “The Hangover of Thrones.” This one was created by Cosmic Toast Studios in partnership with Starz Digital Media, and has been a hit for the channel.
New episodes of “Llama Cop” and “Popcorn Addicts,” as well as all other shows on the channel, debut on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Starz Digital launched Union Pool last September, with a focus on original comedy programming. To date, the channel has grown to more than 100,000 subscribers. The division’s most popular digital property continues to be “How It Should Have Ended,” an animated YouTube series that pokes fun at popular films. HISHE’s channel has more than 3.3 million subscribers.Tags: Animated, comedy, cosmic toast studios, HISHE, reckless tortuga, Starz Digital Media, youtube
