Sundance: CNE Buys Three Short Films for The Scene

Conde Nast Entertainment has acquired three short films from the Sundance Film Festival to air on its online video portal The Scene.

“Stop,” written and directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, is a nine-minute film about a young student athlete whose livelihood is put at risk when he is stopped by the police on his way home. Set in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, the film offer a timely look at the issue of race in America.

“{The And}” is described as an interactive digital series that explores the “intimate spaces of modern-day relationships.” As part of the deal, CNE will release five short films — all of which were created for this series — that profile real-life couples. The series begins with a portrait of Marcela and Rock, the latter an ex-convict and the former a woman whose “love guides him on a better path.” The series is written and directed by Topaz Adizes.

Then there’s “Russian Roulette,” a short film written by Oli Fenton and directed by Ben Aston. Description of the film is somewhat vague: “London becomes a little less lonely when Lucy meets a libidinous cosmonaut on Chatroulette.” It was produced by Ryan Bennet.

The addition of these three films adds to CNE and The Scene’s growing slate of original shorts, which includes previously acquired films like “Burt’s Buzz,” “Person to Person,” “Me + Her,” and “Yearbook.” The latter three debuted on the video portal in December as part of “The New Yorker Shorts” series.
