Taryn Southern’s Movie to Premiere on Vimeo in Late October
Taryn Southern’s feature-length movie, “Searching for Katie,” will debut on Vimeo in late October, the actress and YouTube star announced today on her channel.
Described as a “mixed-media thriller documentary,” the film will center on the disappearance of a young woman and her connection to an LA-based cult. In addition to writing and starring in the film, Southern serves as a producer alongside Aaron Feldman. It’s a project that has been four years in the making, she says.
Available for pre-order now, “Searching for Katie” will be released via Vimeo On Demand on October 24. Those who pre-order before October 23 will be invited to an exclusive hangout/party with the star, known for her comedy and music videos on YouTube as well as a variety of acting and hosting work on TV.
Fans also have the opportunity to be a “part” of the film, says Southern. Those interested can submit a video about their (“fictitious or real”) experiences with a cult organization. The deadline is October 12.
Southern’s film is the latest in a series of projects from top YouTube talent to be distributed on Vimeo. It’s part of a broader strategy by Vimeo to bring more premium content to its Vimeo On Demand catalog. The company has also struck deals with filmmakers and studios ranging from James Franco to Electus to sell content on its service. Other YouTube stars to bring their projects to Vimeo include Joey Graceffa, Phil DeFranco, and ComicBookGirl19.
On YouTube, Southern has close to 400,000 subscribers on her main channel, and belongs to the AwesomenessTV network.
