The Fine Bros. Release the First-Ever YouTube Expansion Pack
Back in October, Benny and Rafi Fine (The Fine Bros.) launched a “Freaks and Geeks” interactive YouTube game. The game, which allowed viewers to choose their own storyline through a series of prompts, was uploaded with the promise of a forthcoming expansion pack. Well, that expansion pack is here, and it is great.
Originally, the interactive 8-bit game based on the show “Freaks and Geeks” placed users in control of Lindsay Weir as she navigated the halls of William McKinley High School. The game allowed users to change up the main storyline by clicking on annotations that directed them to different videos (storylines). Now, with this expansion, viewers can control the alternate “geeks” storyline as experienced by Lindsay’s brother Sam.
The Fine Bros. claim that this is the first expansion pack for a YouTube game ever created, which doesn’t surprise me based on their history of doing innovative things with the platform. The brothers have previously released interactive 8-bit games based off of “Saved by the Bell” and “Twilight: Eclipse,” as well as fourth-wall-breaking web series “MyMusic,” which has the show’s main characters interact with viewers off-platform across social media accounts.
The original “Freaks and Geeks: Interactive Game” has received over 650,000 views since it was first uploaded on October 3.
The expansion as well as the original is written by The Fine Bros. with music and animation credits going to artist Doctor Octoroc.
