‘The Interview’ Tops Google Play and YouTube Movies, Says Google
In what should come as no surprise, Google says “The Interview” has become the highest-selling movie title of the year on both Google Play and YouTube Movies.
Released on digital platforms on December 24, the controversial stoner comedy co-directed by and starring Seth Rogen follows two journalists (the other played by James Franco) as they are recruited by the CIA to assassinate Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea.
According to a Google spokesperson, it’s now the top-selling VOD/EST title in the US and Canada. Earlier in the week, Sony reported that “The Interview” had made over $15 million through online sales in its first four days, most of which came from Google Play and YouTube, according to a source familiar with the numbers.
The film also expanded to iTunes this week.Tags: digital distribution, google, Google Play, Seth Rogen, sony, Sony Hack, Sony Pictures Entertainment, the interview, youtube, YouTube Movies
