Tony Hawk Teams with Complex to Expand ‘Ride’ Digital Channel

Male lifestyle publisher Complex Media is partnering with Tony Hawk to expand the pro skateboarder’s YouTube channel beyond its current confines.

To begin, Complex has launched a standalone website for Hawk’s Ride Channel, which provides a constant stream of skateboarding-related videos, from tricks and tips, to coverage of events and tours and athlete interviews. Launched in 2011 and funded by YouTube, the channel has accumulated more than 762,000 subscribers and 164.5 million views since.

Now Complex will look to expand the channel across the web. As part of the deal, Complex will supply editorial and video content for TheRideChannel.com as well as the existing YouTube channel.

Tony Hawk’s production company, 900 Films, will also continue to create content for the site and channel, with future co-productions between both companies also likely.

“This is going to be a great partnership,” said Hawk in a statement. “Our audience is perfectly aligned with Complex readers, and it will enable us to cover skateboard culture like never before.”

Complex will also handle ad sales and other brand services for the channel, as it does with its network of 120+ sites.

The Ride Channel belongs to Complex Media’s new multi-channel network on YouTube, which it launched last month. In total, the Complex Media MCN boasts more than 6 million subscribers, with content from urban-lifestyle channels including VladTV, HesKicks, and DJ Booth.
