TouchCast Launches Desktop Mode, Adds Multi-Cam Functions

/ Dec 4, 2013

NY-based startup TouchCast is bringing its interactive video platform to desktop computers. The desktop functionality joins the mobile version of TouchCast, which debuted on iPads in late June.

The new desktop service is outfitted with several video-enhancing elements, including the option to switch between multiple cameras during recording. Additionally, via the new interactive in-video YouTube app (vApp) exclusive to the desktop version, creators have the ability to insert YouTube clips as over-the-shoulder graphics while they’re recording a TouchCast video. The desktop version also includes vApps for “hot spots,” which create transparent, clickable overlays that can link to any web-page, and media formats like external videos, photos, GIFs, and SWF files.

These new functions join TouchCast’s pre-existing library of vApps, which allow creators to add interactive elements such as polls, social media accounts, and Google Maps, to videos.

Since launching earlier this year, TouchCast has continued to push towards integrating TV-style video-creation with the interactivity of the web. CEO and co-founder of TouchCast, Edo Segal, spoke to this point, saying: “We set out with a grand vision to merge the two most potent media forms in contemporary history — video and the web — into one super-medium that looks like TV but feels like the web: The video web.”

Back in November, the service also rolled out post-production capabilities that gave video makers the option to shoot video externally, then upload it to TouchCast for interactive editing.

“The iPad app has received a remarkable response, and with the new Desktop product, talent, from enthusiasts to professionals, can push the limits on video creation whether on-the-go with the iPad or from their desktop computer,” said Segal, pointing to the fact that in only six months, TouchCast has generated significant interest among the who’s who of the tech world. Already, AdWeek has nominated TouchCast as one of the “Hottest Startups” of 2013.

Aside from supporting independent video creators, TouchCast also looks to license its tech out to enterprise-level businesses. In fact, the startup currently has a deal in place with Intel for its desktop software.

TouchCast was founded by Edo Segal, Erick Schonfeld, and Charley Miller. The PC beta version of TouchCast can now be downloaded for free at the official TouchCast website.

This is a great idea! Can this be live web broadcasted with the interactivity? It sort of reminds me of YouTube annotations which is done in post-production. If this can be done in a live web broadcast, it would be fantastic. Can viewers select different camera views?
