‘Transparent’ and Other Amazon Series to Stream on Shomi in Canada
Per a new deal with Sony Pictures Television, which controls international distribution rights to Amazon’s “Alpha House,” “Transparent,” “Betas,” and “Mozart in the Jungle,” these titles will soon arrive on Shomi north of the border, beginning with the Golden Globe-winning dramedy “Transparent.”
“Transparent” debuts today on Shomi. (Incidentally, the series will also be available to stream for free in the US this Saturday, as Amazon takes advantage of the increased attention it’s received since winning at the Golden Globes.)
Premiere dates the other three Amazon shows will be announced in the coming weeks.
Launched in latter half of 2014, Shomi is an attempt by Rogers and Shaw, two of the biggest cable companies in Canada, to compete with Netflix Canada. Other popular US TV shows it has exclusive SVOD rights to include “Modern Family,” “Sons of Anarchy,” and “New Girl.”Tags: Amazon, Amazon Studios, Canada, digital distribution, International, Netflix, Rogers Communications, Shaw Communications, Shomi, Sony Pictures Television, SVOD
