DCNF: Watch Out TV: Advertisers Spend More on Digital Programming

A new Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) study indicates that most brand marketers and advertising agency executives expect original digital programming to become far more integral to their business approach within the next three to five years. That should be the time it takes for online programming to reach television’s importance when it comes to advertising. According to the study, brands and agencies will start taking from their television budgets and reallocating funds to internet spending.

NewFront Day 1 Wrap-up. Part 1.

New York Times’ CEO Mark Thompson says that the company is wholeheartedly behind the push into video, and going to back it with the investment and resources to help you meet your marketing needs. The company’s big message today was, “We are The New York Times, and there is nothing like us when it comes to journalistic integrity.” Which, as a marketer, is one reason to believe that partnering with them will lend credibility. Another reason to invest in NYT video is its extraordinary reach across print and online.

The 2014 NewFronts Are an Inflection Point for Digital Programming Are we moving toward a post-television world?

As the third annual Digital Content NewFronts kicks off today in New York, we’ll be awash in new programming that will range from the sublime to the silly, and marketers will be similarly inundated with hype and pitch. It still follows an upfront model, after all, and sales is sales.

Intrigue piles upon intrigue in the Chinese online TV world right now, as top US shows are banned from online streaming sites but are being lined up to re-appear on the state broadcaster CCTV. So fiendish are the twists and turns of the story so far that it would not be out of place among the fleshpots and ultraviolent warriors of the HBO series Game of Thrones, which, incredibly, aired on China’s national broadcaster CCTV on Sunday.

House of Cards’ Beau Willimon Talks About How the Hit Show Came to Be A team full of rebels

Before Beau Willimon created the American version of House of Cards, Web TV (not including YouTube) was largely made up of network program outtakes—or worse, discards. But the writer behind the Netflix series as well as the Broadway play Farragut North (later adapted into George Clooney’s Ides of March) disrupted that notion. In its first two seasons, HoC gleaned the first Emmy noms for an Internet-first show and took home the first acting Golden Globe for an online property. Adweek spoke to Willimon about how the online cosmos have evolved since his days on the Howard Dean presidential campaign.
