USA Launches Prequel Web Series to ‘Covert Affairs’

/ Jul 18, 2013

USA Network has launched “Sights Unseen: Auggie Undercover,” a prequel web series to “Covert Affairs,” the cable network’s one-hour spy drama starring Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham.

The six-episode web series focuses on Gorham’s character, Auggie, a blind CIA special ops officer who on the TV show assists Perabo’s character when she goes on missions. The web series tells the story of a torrid affair Auggie had with a Russian hacker named Natasha (played by Liane Balaban) before he lost his sight. The Natasha character was featured in the first season of “Covert Affairs.”

The web series is tied to a larger social marketing campaign from USA for the new season of “Covert Affairs.” Fans can complete a series of assignments to access additional content and earn rewards points for the Covert Operatives fan-club. Or they can just watch the episodes, which will be released over the course of six weeks.

“Sights Unseen: Auggie Undercover” is sponsored by Jaguar. The car brand’s new two-seat convertible F-TYPE is featured in two of the episodes.

USA worked alongside “Covert Affairs” creators and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord, as well as ad agency Ralph, to develop the web series and the social campaign around it. Gorham served as interactive producer.

In addition to Gorham and Balaban, “Sights Unseen: Auggie Undercover” stars series regulars Kari Matchett as Joan Campbell and Hill Harper as Calder Michaels.

“Sights Unseen: Auggie Undercover” is the second prequel web series USA has produced for “Covert Affairs,” following the original “Sights Unseen,” which followed Gorham’s character on an operation in Spain. It’s also the second companion web series from USA in the past week, following last week’s debut of “Evan’s Campaign Chronicles” for the network’s medical comedy “Royal Pains.”
