USA Network is launching a five-part web series tied to its original TV series, “Royal Pains.”
“Royal Pains” stars Mark Feuerstein, Paulo Costanzo, Reshma Shetty, Ben Shenkmen, and Brooke D’Arsay. Focusing on a doctor (Feuerstein) and his brother (Costanzo) who run a medical concierge service for rich people in the Hamptons, the series began its fifth season on June 12.
In the web series, which is titled “Evan’s Campaign Chronicles,” Costanzo’s character runs for a seat on the Hamptons Village Council. The plot is tied to an ongoing story on the TV show, in which an influential neighbor tries take the medical concierge service’s license away. Costanzo’s character hopes to thwart this by winning a seat on the aforementioned council.
It appears the series will be interactive in the sense that viewers will be able to “vote for” Costanzo’s character as well as help him solve some medical dilemmas. The fifth and final episode will include a special musical number, directed by Costanzo and featuring the entire cast, including Feuerstein, Costanzo, Shetty, Shenkmen, and D’Arsay.
USA says it developed the web series in partnership with “Royal Pains” creator and executive producers Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch, as well as BPG, a creative ad shop that works exclusively for entertainment businesses.
“Evan’s Campaign Chronicles,” which should be available at this link beginning tonight, is presented by Toyota, a longtime sponsor of “Royal Pains.” A spokesperson for USA tells me that the network will air a new episode “each week as it complements the on-air storyline.”
