‘Veronica Mars’ Digital Spinoff Arrives on CTV Extend
The “Veronica Mars” spinoff digital series, “Play It Again, Dick,” is now available on Canadian broadcaster CTV’s online video portal CTV Extend.
Starring Ryan Hansen (“Veronica Mars,” “Party Down”) as himself, “Dick” is described as a meta-adaptation that brings back the cult-hit TV show’s cast to play fictionalized versions of themselves, as well as their on-screen characters. The series follows Hansen as he tries to convince his fellow “Veronica Mars” cast-members that his character, Dick Casablancas, deserves his own spinoff show.
He is joined by Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs II, and Francis Capra, who agree to “reprise their original roles” for his “Private Dick” pilot.
“Play It Again, Dick” is created and executive produced by “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas, written by Thomas and Bob Dearden, directed by Viet Nguyen, and produced by Danielle Stokdyk.
The series was first ordered by The CW earlier this year for its CW Seed video portal, and later picked up by CTV for CTV Extend. The CTV pickup is part of a broader strategy at the broadcasting company to commission and acquire original digital content for CTV Extend, which launched in April.
Spanning eight, short-form episodes, “Play It Again, Dick” will be available on a weekly basis on CTV Extend’s website and the CTV Go mobile app.Tags: CTV, CTV Extend, CW Seed, Digital Spinoff, Kristen Bell, play it again dick, Rob Thomas, ryan hansen, Veronica Mars
