Vice to Get Prime Placement on HBO Now
As part of a multi-faceted deal between Vice Media and HBO that includes a new daily news series, among other content plans, Vice will get prime placement on the premium cable network’s highly anticipated HBO Now app.
When HBO Now launches in April (or later this spring), HBO Now will feature a Vice-branded channel, which will offer access to all Vice-produced content on the network.
As for Vice content, there will be more of it. The new multi-year pact includes a new half-hour “daily newscast,” which will air 48 weeks per year and will provide on-the-ground reporting from Vice’s network of 30 global bureaus.
Vice’s Emmy-winning weekly documentary series is also getting extended. As part of a four-year extension, the digital media giant will now produce 35 episodes of “Vice” per year, instead of the 14 as part of the original deal between the companies.
Finally, the deal also includes the production of 32 specials that offer viewers “in-depth examinations of pressing topics,” the companies said. These will roll out over the next four years, through 2018.Tags: Documentary, hbo, HBO Now, News, Shane Smith, Vice Media
