Vice News Debuts Weekly Live Show, First on YouTube, Then on Samsung’s Milk Video

Vice News has launched a new weekly talk show that will air live on YouTube before a limited-time exclusive window on Samsung’s Milk Video service.

The show, called “On the Line,” will focus on different issues and stories covered by Vice News and its roster of correspondents around the world. The news outlet’s first-ever live online show, it will air every Thursday from 12-12:30pm ET on the Vice News YouTube channel, which has more than 1.2 million subscribers.

Once the YouTube stream has ended, the episode will be edited into a 4-5 minute clip, which will be available exclusively on Milk Video for 72 hours. Once that exclusive window is finished, the same clip will be distributed across all Vice News digital channels, including YouTube.

Launched in November 2014, Milk Video is an attempt by Samsung to grow video viewership across its line of Galaxy devices. The company has cut licensing deals with an array of digital content providers, from MCNs like Maker Studios, StyleHaul, and Tastemade, to news organizations like Vice, Reuters, and BuzzFeed, to publishers such as Funny or Die, Mashable, and Conde Nast Entertainment.

When announcing the launch, Samsung also noted that Vice would be producing a weekly original series for the mobile video service, which a Vice spokesperson confirms is “On the Line.”

In addition to Vice, Milk Video also has exclusive content deals with comedy site and YouTube dance network DanceOn.

News of the series was first reported by Variety.
