Vimeo has secured a deal with Vuguru, the digital studio founded by former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, to distribute the sports-comedy “Off Season” via the video platform’s growing on-demand service.

The feature-length film tells the story of Lex Morrison, a pro-basketball player for a fictional LA-based team called the Knights. Following a disappointing season, Morrison is saddled with the team’s publicist and trainer who try to get him back into shame and make a triumphant return to the game.

Morrison is played by former Lakers star Rick Fox (“He Got Game”), who stars alongside Eliza Dushku (“Dollhouse,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Lacey Chabert (“Mean Girls”), Russell Peters (“Source Code”), and Richard Riehle (“Office Space”).

“Off Season” was written by Gilmar Fortis II and directed by Steven Tsuchida (“Inside Amy Schumer,” “Community”), with Fox, Steven Yell (“Justified”), and Jason Inouye serving as producers.

It’s available on Vimeo On Demand to rent for $6, or download for $10.

Earlier this year, Vimeo opened up a $10 million fund to acquire and distribute feature-length films via Vimeo On Demand. In addition to individual titles and catalogs from filmmakers, the company has been seeking out films that have played at major festivals worldwide, as well as projects that were successfully funded via crowdfunding platforms.
